@tpir1972 - Actually, it is the most southernmost NJ to NY crossing, and in that context, its name might fit...But it was actually named for Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge, the first chairman of the Port Authority of NY and NJ...The term "crossing" was used instead of "bridge" to avoid redundancy...

Looks better without those side trusses...safer without them, too...

@Astromchaser - The trusses were actually removed to allow the bridge to flex a bit...It was found that the original construction was far too rigid to withstand the wind which might result in a like situation that spurned the original Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse...

From the Bx, the passenger side gets a nice view of the nearby Whitestone Bridge...

As of this writing...Toll (cars) is now $13.00 @ the WB Staten Island side, and they are actually thinking about opening the EB tolls back up again and splitting the toll difference...

Originally being from NYC metro, and all its suspension bridges...I can say that when I went across this bridge, I was very impressed by the long causeway stretch that leads to the center span...
