*** MY TESTIMONY ***

I believed in Jesus when I was young, but ended up drifting away for a very long time. It wasn't until my 30s, in 2009 that I began seeking God again. I started praying and God started answering in unexpected ways. Sometimes I had dreams, visions, heard his voice in my spirit or was lead to read certain scriptures. Other times, unusual circumstance would come up in my life, confirming things I asked about. This really convinced me that God answers prayer (but never the way you expect).

In February 2010, I saw Jesus in a dream. He wore a white robe with a gold cloth around his chest. I could not see his face because it shone so brightly. He touched my hand and I felt a million volts of electricity enter my body. The shock was so great that it woke me, literally lifting me off the bed. Then I heard a voice say "John 3:3". I wasn't familiar enough with the bible, so I looked it up.

(John 3:3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

This was another answer to my prayers. I had been questioning whether I should get re-baptized (I was baptized as a baby). After this experience, I knew that my baptism was accepted and that I had just been born again. This experience was a huge turning point in my life.

Beginning in May 2010, during prayer, I would feel God's Spirit on me in such an intense way, that I would cry and groan uncontrollably for hours. It was the biggest emotional release I've ever experienced in all my life. This happened almost daily for about a month. Although I didn't understand it at the time, Jesus would eventually show me that this was the baptism of the Holy Spirit and confirmed it in my bible studies.

Unfortunately, I started doubting after hearing teachings that "speaking in tongues" is the only evidence of the Holy Spirit. I would pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the gift of tongues, but always felt the Spirit tell me I already had it. There was even a time during prayer where I felt lead to pray in tongues and tried it, but I wasn't sure if I was making it up. The only thing that could convince me would be the Holy Spirit "supernaturally" taking over and speaking through me.

In July 2011, while in bed, I heard in my spirit, "Get up! I have something for you!" Later that day, while watching a video on the Holy Spirit, I started thinking "I want the gift of tongues". Once again I heard, "You already have it". You'd think I would start listening to the Holy Spirit by now!

At the end of the show, the announcer blew me away by mentioning scriptures unknown to me, which answered a previous prayer. Suddenly I felt a flood of emotion and started crying. I began stuttering then whispering in a language I didn't understand. This went on for about 5-10 seconds until I tried covering my mouth to control it (I guess I freaked out a little)! I spent the rest of the day thanking and praising God for the amazing gift and joy he had given me.

I learned a very important lesson with this experience. Always trust God rather than men. Do not let the enemy plant seeds of doubt through other people's teachings. If you need answers, go directly to Jesus in prayer and he will answer!
