Brian Topp, âgé de 51 ans, est le président du Nouveau Parti démocratique. Il a été élu au congrès de juin 2011 après avoir codirigé le comité de la plate-forme du NPD lors de l'élection fédérale de 2011.

Il a mené l'équipe lors des négociations entourant la coalition proposées en 2008.

Il a agi à titre de directeur de la campagne nationale lors des élections fédérales de 2006 et 2008

Il travaille comme directeur général de l'ACTRA Toronto, un syndicat de 13 000 membres qui représente les travailleurs et travailleuses de l¹industrie du film et du cinéma. Il occupe ce poste depuis octobre 2001.

Il est membre du conseil d'administration de Film Ontario (à titre de coprésident), du Fonds ROI (fonds de capital de risque) et du Creative Arts Savings and Credit Union.

M. Topp a auparavant été vice-président directeur au Credit Union Central of Canada, un bureau pancanadien d'épargne et de crédit populaire qu'il a joint en décembre 1999.

Entre décembre 1993 et décembre 1999, M. Topp a travaillé comme conseiller de haut niveau dans le gouvernement de la Saskatchewan et, à partir de 1995, à titre de chef de cabinet adjoint du premier ministre Roy Romanow.

Il a travaillé sur la Colline Parlementaire entre 1990 et 1993.

Il a possédé et dirigé un studio de composition typographique ainsi qu'une maison d'édition entre 1983 et 1990.

Il est diplômé en Histoire et en Sciences politiques à l'Université McGill.

M. Topp est marié et père de deux adolescents. Né à Longueuil, au Québec, il a grandi sur la rive sud de Montréal.

Brian Topp, 51, is President of the New Democratic Party of Canada. He was elected at the party's June convention.

He co-chaired the NDP's platform committee during the 2011 federal election.

He led the NDP team during the 2008 coalition negotiations.

He served as national campaign director during the 2006 and 2008 federal campaigns.

He works as executive director of ACTRA Toronto, a 13,000-member union representing film and television performers. He joined ACTRA in that position in October 2001.

He is a member of the board of Film Ontario (as co-chair), ROI Fund (a venture capital fund), and Creative Arts Savings and Credit Union.

Topp previously worked as a Senior Vice-president at Credit Union Central of Canada, the national office of Canada's credit union system. He joined CUCC in December 1999.

Between December 1993 and December 1999 Topp worked as a senior official in the Government of Saskatchewan, from 1995 as deputy chief of staff to Premier Roy Romanow.

He worked on Parliament Hill between 1990 and 1993.

He owned and operated a typesetting studio and publishing company between 1983 and 1990.

He graduated from McGill University in 1983 with a degree in History and political science.

Topp is married, with two teenaged sons. He was born in Longueuil, Quebec, and was raised on the south shore of Montreal.
