About Me:
Stephen Box was born in Queensland, Australia to Raymond and Maureen Box, two young Nazarene ministers who had just finished building their first church in the subtropical town of Mackay. This tiny church in this small community was the beginning of a long journey and a large commitment to leaving the world better than they found it.
The Box family, which now included younger sister Sharon, moved to Melbourne before sailing to America on the S.S. Canberra. They lived in Idaho, in Missouri and finally settled in California. Along the way, the Boxes enjoyed life in a wide variety of neighborhoods, from big city urban to small town rural, and Stephen's commitment to social justice Stephen Box with his sister and their parents on the S.S. Canberra heading to the USand stewardship was developed on that journey.
Stephen attended Point Loma University and UCSD before returning to Los Angeles where he worked in the hospitality industry, supervising operations for Mannings, International Onion, and Hornblower Dining Yachts.
His track record of success in the private sector is complemented by his experience in Kentucky as a Director for Habitat for Humanity and as a Workforce Development Instructor.
Stephen's acute sensitivity to the complexities of doing business in Los Angeles was developed when he returned to Hollywood to produce music videos and commercials. On sound stages and on location, Stephen has worked with the most talented andcreative people in the Entertainment Industry, always delivering on time and under budget, demonstrating the strong leadership skills that set him apart.
Stephen Box cleaning up his neighborhood in District 4 with his wife and friendsThe defining moments that prompted Stephen Box to get involved in the civic process started when his industry began leaving town for greener pastures.
They continued as the community he loved deteriorated and the simple act of appealing to City Hall for help fell on deaf ears.
They peaked when Stephen discovered the hard way that safety was a complaint driven process, not a standards driven commitment.
He was now fully engaged in the civic participation process.
Stephen Box presenting to the LA Neighborhood Council Coalition at Hollywood City Hall in District 4Stephen Box served as an Independent Election Administrator for LA's Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, working with neighborhood councils throughout LA on outreach, capacity building, and communications campaigns.
Along the way, Stephen and Enci developed the popular "Get Connected" social media seminar that has been presented at City Hall, at the Valley Congress of Neighborhoods, and in communities citywide.
Their campaigns to engage the community in the civic process include "Great Streets" and "Common Ground" to address local planning and land use solutions, "The Big Story" and "The Big Idea" for project management, and "Activists on the Treadmill" for transportation advocates.
Through it all, Stephen has demonstrated that he is a man of integrity who is committed to working with others to make Los Angeles a Great City.

Very impressed! Just saw you on Occupy Ch 9 News last night, then watched this video. It's ironic, because of my coworker at the USPS willing to give back his most recent raise and thensome, I obtained DONATE YOUR RAISE dot com, DONATE MY RAISE dot com. I have a TON of ideas - right now I'm going to check out a company that might be able to SaveTheFlip dot com (and create jobs for EVERYONE ( including the physically and mentally challenged) - and am Looking Forward to your progress!
