"@ManiNayar But aren't they linked, also, quite literally in our video? That said, we do take on board your point - and it is a very good one - but I would like to think that the juxtaposition isn't quite as strikingly different as it first appears. I feel it's worth pointing out that she isn't directly objectified - the "view" we have is on a private moment of subjective realisation. I'm not trying to repudiate your criticism at all; as I said, I think we should keep it in mind for the future."

Feelgood Theatre Productions' award-winning production Slave - A Question of Freedom premiered at The Lowry theatre, UK in November 2010.
Winner of the Pete Postlethwaite 'Best New Play' Manchester Evening News Theatre Award in February 2011, winner of Arts Roundup North West 2010 Best Play, Best Director and Best Actress (Lashana Lynch as Mende).
Based on the life story of Mende Nazer, co-author of Slave (Virago Press) and international human rights activist, the play is a feast of story-telling, music and dance. Mende was abducted from her Nuba Mountains village at the age of 12 and was enslaved for almost 9 years, finally being 'owned' by a diplomat in London. She escaped in 2000 and was eventually awarded refugee status and British citizenship with the help of the media here in the UK, co-author Damien Lewis and Baroness Caroline Cox.
This highly acclaimed new play prepares to tour the UK later this year starting at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith. Check out www.feelgoodtheatre.co.uk for dates and information on the rest of the tour.
A proportion of profits from the premiere were donated to the Mende Nazer Foundation which plans to build schools in the Nuba mountains to provide improved education for children there.
This is a wonderful story that packs a serious punch - Slavery may have been abolished 200 years ago, but it is still rife and destroying the lives of millions of people around the world every year. Including here in the 'civlised West'...

This has been going on for years. In 2008 victims contacted the police no action was undertaken by the police untill now. Shame ! Where was Anti Slavery Int ? The so called underclass in the U.K. in The Netherlands in the western part of the world is in increasing danger of being exploited as slaves.
The trade unions only very mildly criticise this government policy. All political parties in the dutch parliament
support this government policy of forced labour. The situation has become worse since 2004 when a new law
was passed wich was inspired by the in the USA invented WORK FIRST policy.
