  • The reason for filtering extract air is that in a dwelling there may be fine particles (talcum powder or similar) and dust that can be airborne and would be drawn through ducting to the heat recovery unit. The filter is there to prevent these particles from getting into the heat exchanger cube so that it does not become clogged up. This ensures that the resistance through the heat exchanger is minimised and means lower power consumption to achieve the required air flow rates.
