At Texas State University-San Marcos, The Rising Star of Texas isn't just a slogan — it's a way of life. At more than 30,000 students, we're the fifth-largest university in the state of Texas, and we're bigger than the flagship universities of 26 states.

But we're not just getting bigger. Texas State is leading the way in research in fields from nanotechnology to biodiesel, and we're doing groundbreaking work on managing Texas' most-precious resource, water. We have one of the largest geography programs in the nation. We're preparing hundreds of new teachers in dozens of fields every year.

With 100 bachelor's, 88 master's and nine doctoral degree programs, Texas State offers a wide range of studies to a diverse population. More than 32 percent of our students are ethnic minorities, and we rank 16th in the nation for the number of degrees we grant to Hispanic students.
