Had a friend that left a SM58 hanging out of the back of his truck after a gig one night - drove home about 30 miles dragging it by a cable downt he freeway the whole way......still worked!

My previous SM58 rolled into my pint of bitter after a duo gig... I fished it out double quick.. forgot about it, and two weeks later at a band gig.. was told theres something wrong with my mic.. ok.. two weeks later the bitter had to have got in..gummed it up. I DID try hot water.. nope.. thats when we found out its not worth repair.. buy a new one .. they arent that expensive anyway.

I have used 57 and 58's for over 40 years as a lead rock & roll vocalist / frontman. After years of swinging the 58 on the end of the cable (like Roger Daltry only I was more violent with my swinging) I have never been let down. There is only one mic for live rock & roll and that's the Shure SM-58. The SM-57 is a great mic as well, but as you saw not constructed for abuse like the SM-58 is. I have a beta sm-58 also and it's just as tough. Long Live Shure - you guy's are awesome!!

Uh, yeah, well I think the SM57 is the best all around mic on the planet. Still, surviving a 7 story drop is not on my list of requirements. So what's the point. If it couldn't survive a 10 foot drop, I'd still say it's the best all around mic on the planet. Because it sounds great and it doesn't cost a fortune.

I've got an idea. Why not do a video where you shoot a microphone out of a potato gun and some highpowered slingshots. You could call it the Shureshot video. That's truly kissing the sky.

My Choir Director has already said that we can't drop any of our Shure mics from the Choir Loft. But, I've dropped the 57s in my mic box by accident many times and they're still working fine. I love 'em, Kent Courtney (a lifetime Shure mic user).
