To get a Doily to lay flat there are several things to be taken into consideration. Using the correct size of crochet hook for the thread is first, then not making too many or too little stitches per inch according to the pattern, thread and hook. Then once it is finished, with all the ends woven in, I lay it out on a Doily Stretcher Board I have and pin it out to the correct shape and size - and spray it lightly with spray starch - can also just wet and pin out - leave to dry.

These patterns come from various publications -- & some are "modifications" of patterns I found in different places - or charted out myself (I do not sell patterns). I recommend the following publications for patterns like these: Used Magic Crochet Magazines, Elizabeth Hiddleson books, other Crochet magazines of your choice. You might also try the DRG publications, including their website and Annie's Attics, though I do not know if they have these exact patterns or similar ones.

I use different patterns and stitches -- I have stitch libraries in different books and publications in addition to patterns I have bought or found online. Some of the designs I just put together - combinations of different stitches -- and some of them are actually patterns for bags or baskets. None of them are all in one place, though!!

Thank You for sharing this -- I think it is so important for those who go into the wild, including the Ocean, and have personal experiences there to Share them and make them real to others in the world. Though I have been to a number of land wild places, I will probably never get to experience what Brian Skerry has photographed and is shown here.
