Longarm Machine Quilting- Loading your quilt

    by TheCraftyGemini 42,794 views

In this video I cover the basics of loading your quilt onto your frame. The setup I use is the Stretch Frame and Voyager 17 (V17) by Hinterberg.

I specifically cover how to pin your backing, how to layer your batting and quilt top, how to baste your quilt sandwich together. The loading method I prefer is the "floating" method where the batting and the quilt top are floating atop the backing fabric. I show you how I load my layers on my frame.

    by TheCraftyGemini 10,541 views

In this video I show you how to hand tie your quilt. This is a great way for you to secure the three layers of your quilt sandwich without paying a longarmer to do it for you or dealing with machine quilting. This technique can be done by anyone with some basic supplies and is a great way to get kids into quilting as well.

Information on the quilt project seen in this video can be found here: http://craftygemini.blogspot.com/2011/12/stitched-video-workshops-are-open-for_01.html

STITCHED 2012 is a compilation of 20 different fiber art video workshops with well-known instructors in all areas of the crafting industry from sewing, quilting, mixed-media, etc..... available for you to join right now.

To hand tie your quilt you will need the following supplies:
    - embroidery floss, yarn, perle cotton or a thick thread
    - embroidery needle, tapestry needle or curved needle
    - scissors
    - a quilt

There are so many varieties in what kind of thread you can use for your quilt ties that I would encourage you to check out the clearance bins at your local craft, yarn or fabric stores for some pretty decorative yarns and thread that you would like to use in your next quilt project.

Longarm Quilting- How to Load quilt with magnets

    by TheCraftyGemini 9,103 views

    SUBSCRIBE: http://full.sc/LmYEYg
Let me show you how I save time loading my quilt onto my longarm frame with magnets! I started using this technique about 2 years ago and have never gone back to zippers or pinning. I only load the quilt backing onto two rollers with magnets and then the batting and quilt top are floated. Meaning, I don't roll my quilt top on any roller.

When I purchased my longarm setup I got it with the zippered leaders that go taped on to the electrical conduit poles. After I discovered the magnet method I considered removing the zippered leaders but figure the tap would leave them too gummy and I didn't want to go through the hassle of cleaning them up or buying new poles so, I just left them as is and I place the magnets over all the layers of fabric- zippered leaders and quilt backing with no real problems. I show you how I do just that in this video as well.

The magnets are not only great for loading the quilt backing but for keeping a little allen wrench, seam ripper, small pair of scissors, etc. stuck on the machine for easy access while quilting.

I buy my magnets from Leslie & Curt at Finishing Touches Quilting Studio: http://bit.ly/KWDy4s
