Guile's Theme on eight floppy drives

I actually did this a while back, but it was a bit of a rush job. It was a friend's birthday and I wanted to get him a little more than just some cash. So I ended up doing a video for Guile's theme and giving it to him. I re-visted it and changed it a bit to what I *think* sounds better. Plus I did some additional recording work to better separate the drives so it sounds better. I'm not totally convinced everything I did was for the better, but I'm pretty sure it was beneficial.

DKC2 Lockjaw's Saga on eight floppy drives

Hey guys. I've had this one tucked away for a while because I wanted to try adding in some drums to it. I wanted to do a lot of the Donkey Kong Country 2 songs, but there is just something missing from it without drums. So this was my attempt at it.
They're very minimal and there is a specific reason why I can do it for this song. Just know that I'm justified. Also, a lot of mixing work went into this to make sure there was a proper balance. I've got multiple recordings of different sets of drives, one recording of each for bass, another for the higher frequencies, and of course the usual left/right recordings.
I don't think you will be able to hear the difference very clearly, but it is there and there is a big difference from this recording and my usual left/right/bass mixing.
The base MIDI that I edited for this came from King Meteor! His work is of excellent quality and I'm probably going to continue using it whenever I do video game music videos. you should definitely go check out his awesome channel.

This guy has a pretty awesome channel in my opinion. Not only does he do some good floppy drive music videos, but he also has some videos of various things he does with electronics. Its a good mix =) His setup is pretty awesome too as he is using an Arduino Mega. With it, he has a 12 drive setup! Go to his channel to see it in action.
I liked his rendition of the 007 theme so I chose that at the time, but he has same way cooler stuff now! He's done the Mortal Kombat theme and Sweet Dreams, both of which sound awesome. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets the hang of it and arranges them really well. Definitely another floppy drive musician you should keep your eye on.

This guy's videos are a shining example as to why I wish to see more people trying to do their own floppy drive music. He employed an idea that I would have never thought to try: attaching guitar pickups to each individual drive! It's great to see how different minds approach the same task. Definitely go check out his channel for his other videos. He's got a lot of fun songs.
I love a lot of the songs he's done, but by far this one was my favorite. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the music from this game. Though I got so fed up with baby Mario crying all the time... Other than that you should see his rendition of Popcorn. I think that's one of his best new-er ones. But you can find that out for yourself =)

I really love the style this guy's got going on in his videos! Check it out. He adds in small, but really nice details into his videos to customize it to the song. His taste in music is also pretty awesome. I think he is well on his way to making great videos, but he needs a little extra attention to motivate him! Please see his channel/video.
I chose to do this song for two reasons: 1. It was my favorite song of TheCanadianGamer11's at the time I decided to do this and 2. I needed to remake my version anyway. I really wish I had known he was going to do the Athletic theme from Super Mario. It sounds so good in my opinion. Plus the way he makes the floppy drive LEDs flicker is mesmerizing. If you don't already know Sammy1Am, he was the creator of the software solution I'm using for my setup. Though I've tweaked mine to fit my liking and needs, it's all based on his hard work. Doctor Who Theme on eight floppy drives

I've been extremely busy the last month or so. First my computer died on me, then finals, then work, and on top of that most of my family moved away to India. So sorry for the delay in videos. I'm still preoccupied, but I hope to be able to start putting videos up again.
This was highly requested from long ago so I hope you guys enjoy it. I've really thought about how I record my audio and what has sounded good over the past videos. I combined those elements as best I could.
I don't have two microphones of equal quality, so I recorded the left four and right four drives separately and pushed the audio to their respective side. I then recorded all eight and put it through a low pass filter and a small bass boost. I think the resulting mix of the three tracks sounds the best. It takes a lot more time to record and edit, but I thought it was worth it. Let me know what you think.
Oh and I also started a FaceBook page. Haven't really built it out yet, but I'll get to it.

This was originally a request to Sammy1Am, but he was badass enough to let me do it when I asked him =D
Since I figure these drives are going to be in my room for a while (lol), I spent some time mounting the monitor to the wall and generally cleaning up the setup. Also got a proper mic stand and a tripod for the webcam I use. The whole thing looks a lot cleaner now =P
As you can see I suspended the mic this time above the drives which gives me a much more clear track, but one that lacks bass entirely. So I mix in the input from the old mic so it's not completely hollow, but it still leaves something to be desired.
Ideally, I want to get another one of those AT2020 mics and use that to capture on the table again. When I am able to I will =)

I actually had all of these way long ago, but stuff happened. First I moved from a 5 drive setup to an 8 drive, so I had to redo all the songs. Then I got really busy with real life stuff. When I got a little more free time I did record the new version, but then FailBlog bought my other video. That led me to buying a new mic and camera which got rid of the huge desync issue I was having.
Oh and then I started a new job so there was all the training and other random things. Throw in some school stuff for a finishing touch and you'll come to understand why it took me about 2 months to get these recorded. Track list below:

This was so easy to record compared to my other songs! No guess work on syncing audio, no desync between audio and video to fix, minimal editing of audio, and other things. It is a new setup though, so there may still be some imperfections that can be improved upon. For one, this video feels too yellow now that I see it...

Be Prepared on eight floppy drives

Another classic favorite of mine from my childhood. Sucks to be this upcoming generation.
I would've put out all these videos way sooner, but I've been trying to fix this problem for ages now. I feel like I've hit a wall and don't know what to try next.
The audio and video eventually go out of sync in this video towards the end. It's slight, but it annoys the hell out of me. I've tried everything in order to fix it.
I'm fairly confident the audio is not the problem as it's synced directly to the audio recorded from my phone (using Audacity to edit them side by side). Same timing, rate, and everything.
However, the video is what I think is the issue. The original video is recorded at 23.953252 fps, but when I convert it in order to be able to edit it in VirtualDub, no matter what I try it goes to 24. So that must mean that there are extra frames being added right?
I tried replacing the audio track directly to the mp4, but that did NOT work out either which leaves me baffled. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! I don't have a lot of time to do research on this. Otherwise my plan was to buy he Audio-Technica AT2020 USB microphone and possible a high quality web cam? That way they share the same clock when recording. I'm not sure what to do. Thanks in advance for any help!

Doom - E1M1 on eight floppy drives

I actually hit the limit of my Arduino with this song. I had intended to have the other seven drives play the really fast parts as well, but the Arduino had trouble switching pin states for all the pins necessary so fast.
So instead I just got like five notes out of something thats supposed to play thirty. I don't think it was because it couldn't switch pin states fast enough because I improved the number of cycles it takes to do that, but rather because the loop used to do so isn't effecient enough to keep up with that many operations.
Going to have to take a look at the Arduino code sometime.

I couldn't find anything decent enough to use for a background so that blurry thing surrounded by black is what you get when you search for Lufia 2 on wallbase.cc. I thought it fitting. Sorry my camera can't be awesome enough to make it out.
There is a fifth part to this song, but it's small compared to the other parts and plays TERRIBLY on my fifth drive. It's god awful, I swear to you. I've been trying to fix it for ages, but there is just no hope. I'd need a different floppy drive to get it to play.

So I was messing around with different setups and I realized that my crappy mic was picking up a lot of extra noise through the table. And thats where a lot of distortion came from so after propping the mic up on a box I found the recording to be much more clear and thus needing a lot less editing! Yay!

Just re-watched Battlestar Galactica and was strongly compelled to do this. I'm not sure if this is actually called All Along The Watchtower or Kara Remebers. Seems to be a difference when I consult google on the matter.

It kind of bothered me that the person who healed my pokemon kept saying she hoped to see me again. Only reason I'd go back there was if my pokemon died again...wtf. Battlefield 1942 on three floppy drives

I LOVE the Battlefield series =D I started with 1942, moved onto the modern warefare mod for it, followed that up with 2142 (hands down FAVORITE FPS to this day), and now days you can find me on Battlefield 3. I hope this is satisfactory because I had to edit out a lot of notes in order to make it compatible with the floppies. Sustained notes are difficult, but the chords...Oh god the chords..... THERE WERE SO MANY OF THEM.
