ABOUT NINA
A product of the finest French and American training, Sankyo Artist Nina Perlove has won prizes in numerous contests, including the Laurence Beauregard Flute Competition, the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the Cincinnati Flute Symposium Performers Competition, and the Richardson Young Artist Competition. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, including appearances in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Austria and has extensive performance experience in both traditional and contemporary solo and chamber music. Perlove frequently works with composers on the creation of new works, including her recent world premiere of Philip Koplows Upon Listening to the Flute: Korean Impressions for Flute and Orchestra. In orchestras, Perlove has held positions with the Spoleto USA and Graz Festival Orchestras, the Jackson and Lansing Michigan Symphony Orchestras, and has appeared with the Charleston Symphony. Perlove has given masterclasses in the United States and Italy and is currently on the faculty of Northern Kentucky University. She has adjudicated competitions including the Concours General de Musique Leopold BELLAN, the Midsouth Flute Society, the Central Ohio Flute Fair, and the Overture Awards. She is a judge for the 2009 National Flute Association Dissertation Prize.

In addition to her performing and teaching, Perlove is a fine writer, music critic, and advocate for modern music (J. Pritchard, The Flute Network). Her articles have appeared in publications including Perspectives of New Music, American Music, Pan Magazine, Windplayer Magazine, Flute Talk Magazine, and The Flutist Quarterly. Her doctoral thesis on the flute music of Aaron Copland won the 2004 National Flute Association Dissertation Prize for outstanding contribution to flute scholarship. Perlove was the 2009 Honoree by Leading Women Cincinnati in Arts and Entertainment.

Perlove began her flute studies at age seven in Ann Arbor, Michigan with teacher Nancy Waring. She continued her studies at the University of Michigan, where she studied with Keith Bryan and Leone Buyse, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Bradley Garner and Jack Wellbaum, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2003. As the recipient of a Fulbright Grant in 1995, she spent two years in Paris where she studied with Sophie Cherrier and the late Alain Marion. She is currently working on a project to document Marions unique teaching style using recorded examples from her lessons with the former master teacher in Paris.

Thank you so much fr the friend invite Nina! I'm glad to be watching your videos even as a student clarinetist. If not your flute playing that helps me improve, it is your principles of the artistry of music, and what you stand for here on youtube!
glad to be a part of it,

Hi, I started learning the flute this year in my grade seven band, and love it. My teacher encourages us to admire mistakes and look at them as learning oppurtunities. It's good to know that other people are looking at it in this way also!
PS: I'm very happy to say that band is no longer a class for 'geeks'! Many of my friends wish that they could play an instrument like the flute. :)
