The name of their band - Meritas - is a syllable play of their names - Meri Jaman and Anita Valo. Both girls grew up in Germany. They moved to Croatia in 1996 and immediately formed a duo. Meritas have so far recorded four studio albums, acquired several music award nominations and become one of the most widely played performers on Croatian radio scene.

Their debut 'Jump, dance, shout!' (Dallas Record, 1997.) was a real discovery on the Croatian scene, as it has brought optimistic songs combined with power-pop. Their next album 'Play' (Dallas Records, 2000.) set new production standards on the regional music scene.

For their 10 year anniversary in 2007, Meritas marked the event with a concert in Tvornica, combined with a unique art exhibition called "Transformed into Sound". The paintings were done by art students who each used a different song from Meritas to inspire their work.

Meritas write music for their songs. They have a faithful number of people who they work closely together with, such as music producer Dejan Oreskovic, and lyrics writers Ines Prajo and Arjana Kunstek. It is only when all these people are brought together that Meritas sound standard and a particular image emerge.

Meritas' concerts and live performances are organized with a semi-acoustic band. The bend are Dejan Oreskovic (bass guitar), Tin Ostres (drums) and Zdeslav Klaric (electric piano).
