from natural news: There are 14 billion hamburgers consumed each year in the United States alone. The people who eat those burgers, though, have little knowledge of what's actually in them. Current USDA regulations, for example, openly allow beef contaminated with E. coli to be repackaged, cooked and sold as ready-to-eat hamburgers.

from wfld: A Chicago alderman is taking a hard look at whether mandatory swine flu vaccines for children could stop the spread of the virus. Ald. George Cardenas raised the question yesterday. Chicago health officials are against mandatory vaccinations, and federal guidelines do not recommend them. Meanwhile, free swine flu shots will be available at six city colleges in Chicago. The city health director told city council yesterday that 54,000 doses should arrive any day now.

from wkyt: They thought it was a big storm or even a tornado that caused damage to their properties, then they realized it was a low-flying military aircraft.
It happened Tuesday evening on Willow street in Frankfort. A Marine Corps officer said it was part of an urban training exercise where the Osprey aircraft land in tight spaces.
Neighbors say the aircraft was flying right over their rooftops and caused tree limbs to come crashing down, lawn furniture to be thrown several feet and playsets to be tipped over.
Captain Robert Shuford of the 24th Marine expeditionary unit apologized to neighbors for the mess they caused and says a team will be out in the neighborhood tomorrow to assess the damage. He also warned that the training would continue for about another week, but they would not be landing in the area they were on Tuesday.

from nbcwashington: Police escorted a procession of trucks hauling steel from the World Trade Center towers out of the area Tuesday morning.
For the past three years, the steel had been at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where the events of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks were reconstructed. The steel is being taken back to New York City.
NIST and its contractors and collaborators recommended "action in the areas of increased structural integrity, enhanced fire endurance of structures, new methods for fire resistant design of structures, enhanced active fire protection, improved building evacuation, improved emergency response, improved procedures and practices, and education and training."
The convoy traveled down Interstate 270 to the Beltway, then north on Interstate 95 toward New York. Every truck was flying the Star-Spangled Banner, NBC4 viewer Heather Salley said in an e-mail. "Very sobering drive to work," she wrote.
