In 2003 a man put a Browning 30-06 rifle on consignment for sale at the Ellwood Epps Sporting Goods store in Orillia, Ontario. A customer came in a few days later and purchased the rifle, so the store manager called the Canadian Firearms Centre to transfer the firearm to the customer.
The Canadian Firearms Centre refused the transfer, saying the rifle had been reported stolen 11 years earlier.

The Canadian Firearms Centre could not explain why three separate registration certificates were issued for the rifle AFTER it had been reported stolen. Of course. (less info)
