Writer/Video Journalist Bret Primack has been at the forefront of new media since he co-founded Jazz Central Station in 1995. In 1997, he was the first Jazz blogger with Bird Lives, where, as the Pariah, his heartfelt diatribes struck a responsive chord in the music industry.

A graduate of NYU Film School who studied with Martin Scorsese, Bret worked in documentaries and industrials before he became a journalist, writing about Jazz.

In addition to hundreds of articles and interviews, Bret has written liner notes for McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, Ella Fitzgerald and many others.

With the advent of computer assisted video, and web distribution, Bret returned to filmmaking in 2004.

Today, Bret Primack produces videos for Sonny Rollins, Joe Lovano and Billy Taylor, as well as Concord and Mosaic Records.

News: Passing 8 Million Views and the Sonny Rollins App
Bret Primack is pleased to report that his YouTube Jazz Video Guy channel has passed eight million views and that he's just released a Sonny Rollins iPhone App.

On the cutting edge of technology and music since he co-founded Jazz Central Station, the first Jazz website in 1994, Bret is an outspoken advocate for utilizing new media as a marketing and distribution tool for Jazz. Bret believes that "to reach new listeners, as well as consolidate the existing global Jazz audience, its important to provide access to Jazz on all new media platforms, including YouTube and the iPhone, as well as social media networks Facebook and Twitter."

Bret has produced and posted over four hundred videos that appear on YouTube, artist and label websites. Working closely with Sonny Rollins, Joe Lovano, Billy Taylor, the Concord Music Group and Mosaic Records, Bret has developed a regularly updated reservoir of content and a loyal, enthusiastic worldwide following. "Whats different now," Bret explains, "is that my audience communicates directly with me through email, Facebook and YouTube comments. Jazz is truly a global medium and the internet empowers musicians and record labels by facilitating the creation and distribution of content. But just as important is the direct connection with the listener."

The Sonny Rollins iPhone App, Bret's latest creation, is a mini-website where users can access Sonnys music, videos, and concert tickets. Once the free App is downloaded from iTunes, it's very easy to sample and purchase the music, from any location. One click from the App and the music is automatically downloaded to the iPhone. With thirty five million iPhone users, there is a considerable potential audience for Apps worldwide.
