The latest hearing of Petition 1247, which aims to bring McKenzie Friends to Scotland's Courts saw Margo MacDonald MSP speak further as to the advantages of allowing McKenzie Friends in Scotland, particularly noting the differences raised by Lord Gill's recommendations on McKenzie Friends, where the Lord Justice Clerk recommended that it should be at the Court's power to allow a McKenzie Friend to appear or not, this being much different from the use of McKenzie Friends in England & Wales, existing for some 40 years prior to now, where a request for a McKenzie Friend is considered under Article 6 of European Commission Human Rights legislation.
Murdo Fraser MSP, who is the constituency MSP of petitioner Mr Stewart MacKenzie, also spoke, supporting the idea of a McKenzie Friend in Scotland.
