Three years ago Alice Saunders of Forestbound and Francesca Zmetra of Thirteen Eighty-Five and the blog The Snail and The Cyclops became roommates in an old house in Jamaica Plain, MA. They didn't know each other at the time but because of their similar aesthetic and style they bonded instantly and became best of friends. Alice's aesthetic leans toward the old military Americana style with a collection of canvas bags, found bones, birch bark, vintage lace and postcards. Francesca's style is more feminine, wartime beauty parlor/ apothecary.

Puppeteer Stacey Gordon, aka Staceyrebecca, started making puppets with her church youth group as a kid. It wasn't until after college that Stacey saw an adult puppet slam performed by Preston Foerder at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater that she decided to pursue puppetry.

Robin and Kathy Tucker of woodmosaics stopped working in town back in 1986. After Robin's intricate wood-inlayed work was featured in The Best of Missouri Hands catalog and commissioned by Ralston Purina, they were on their way to full time crafting. Influenced by Amish quilt patterns, Robin's excellent woodworking uses exotic natural woods that range from Satinwood from Sri Lanka to Purpleheart from Central and South America. All of the wood is completely natural, with only a clear finish added to punctuate the beauty of the wood's innate color.

Holly Stalder is a prolific clothing designer working out of a cozy studio in Portland, Oregon. Her feminine, frilly clothing and accessories have gained wide acclaim, and are quite popular for the wedding set.

Holly's work has been featured on Ultrapdx.com and Venus Zine, as well as SOMA, ELLE, Lucky, and W magazines. The piece that we were lucky enough to catch Holly making in her studio in January is of the same ilk as the one on the cover of winter/spring issue of Portland Bride & Groom.
