It is time to Spread the Word to End the Word, and make people stop and think about their hurtful and disparaging use of the word retard.
Most people dont think of this word as hate speech, but thats exactly what it feels like to millions of people with intellectual disabilities, their families and friends. Using "retard" as a term of derision is just as cruel and offensive as any other slur.
The Spread the Word to End the Word campaign will raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the R-word and encourage people to pledge to stop using it.

verb (used with object)
1. to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.)
noun
5. Automotive, Machinery. an adjustment made in the setting of the distributor of an internal-combustion engine so that the spark for ignition in each cylinder is generated later in the cycle.
I don't like restricting speech though. Especially since "retarded" is almost never used in a derogatory sense against those with disabilities- usually I heard it used against other "normal" teens. P.S. I think swearing, drinking, smoking, obesity, wars, famine, and natural disasters are greater problems than words like "retarded," but good luck on your campaign nevertheless.
