combatreform.org/militaryvehicles.htm............................................ TRACKED mountain bikes are the best answer for dispersed infantry mobility just like TRACKED light tanks/APCs are to get concentrated infantry to the battlefield
Military Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Techniques **************************************************************************************************** "I'd like to have two Armies -- one for display, with lovely guns, tanks, little Soldiers, staffs, distinguished and doddering Generals and deal little regimental officers, who would be deeply concerned over their General's bowel movements or their Colonel's piles; an Army that would be shown for a modest fee on every fairground in the country."
The other would be the REAL ONE, composed entirely of young enthusiasts in camouflage uniforms, who would not be put on display but from whom impossible efforts would be demanded and to whom all sorts of tricks would be taught. That's the Army in which I should like to fight." ************************************************************************ Jean Larteguy French Commando/Soldier/Journalist
PROBLEMS: The U.S. Army Airborne is not living up to its forebears; Gavin, Ridgway, Lee, Moore and both Granges would be or are not impressed with the current complacency with WEAK COMBINING OF ARMS (Videos 1-4), BAD AIRBORNE MEANS; parachuting airdrop, airlanding, hovering etc. (Videos 5-23) and FOOT-SLOGGING and TRUCK-HOPPING (Videos 24-36)
....................................................................................................................... SOLUTIONS: Real combined-arms, better Airborne means and light tanks/APCs (Videos 37-122) to create Air-Mech-Strike Forces that parachute insert with high altitude, low opening and gliding parachutes that fight from cross-country-mobile to include across lakes/rivers---M113 Gavin light tanks/APCs and are always ready to deploy instantly by General Gavin's KIWI pods--today's ISO container "BATTLEBOXes" (Videos )............................... www.geocities.com/air_mech_strike
www.geocities.com/wheelsvstracks......................................................................... ANYTHING that is TRACKED and ARMORED is a TANK. Tanks can be light, medium or heavy in weight. The Germans call all their armored, tracked tanks, "Panzers". Since they co-invented tank warfare with the British THEIR DEFINITION IS WHAT COUNTS not narrow-minded, incompetent American whoppertanktards who want only turreted heavy tracks to be known as tanks; a light M113 Gavin in German Combat Engineer use is called a "Minenwerferpanzer64" .............................................................................................. VIDEOS 1-31: ARMORED, X-COUNTRY, AMPHIBIOUS & AIR MOBILITY........The Laws of Physics on planet earth dictate that in closed terrains, LIGHT tracked tanks with low ground pressures and low overall weights (M) when moved (A) exert less force (F) onto the ground to not break the crust to keep moving than high-ground pressure, wheeled trucks with cargo or thinly armored but heavy bodies that focus vehicle forces into narrow multiple wheeled footprints churning up the ground. Wheeled trucks are like a fat lady wearing high heeled shoes, have her step on your foot and find out if you doubt this. This is why wheeled trucks get stuck trying to go off-road and users end up sticking to roads/trails/streets to avoid embarassment in front of their peers. There are two major terrain types on eath, closed and open. In closed terrain, light infantry needs the absolute most mobile light tracked M113 Gavins available to go cross-country wherever infantry can walk--to include swimming across lakes/rivers as well as FLY OVER bad terrain and land mines by available CH-47D/F, C-27J, C-130H/J aircraft not budgetary fantasies in power point slides............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. VIDEOS 32-44 FIREPOWER.......Fire support by M113 Gavins with autocannon, 106mm Recoilless Rifles, TOW ATGMs, turreted cannon or STUG-like fixed guns or the M8 Buford/Thunderbolt AGS is needed to bust buildings/bunkers and defeat other tanks in meeting engagements..........VIDEOS 45-47: PROTECTION a thin box on wheels is never going to be protective enough tracks are intrinsically better protected and 28% more capable of extra armor layering...........VIDEOS 48-75 REAL WORLD COMBAT SUCCESS WITH TRACKS AND FUTURE CONCEPTS........In open terrains where there is less cover and concealment heavy units need medium-to-heavy tracked tanks that can dominate enemies with heavy weapons at long ranges but still need a M113 Gavin/M8 Buford/Thunderbolt light tank engineer cavalry ahead of them to proof the ground that its not too soft to move through and if necessary breach land mines and obstacles with Percy Hobart-like "funnies". There must be no Jessica Lynch underclass in wheeled trucks-resupply must be done by armed and armored M113 Gavin pallet carrying variants. America's Army needs to stop wasting moneies on obsolete wheeled Humvee/Stryker/MRAP/JTVL trucks or lusting for medium-weight FCS tanks that are too heavy for closed terrain and too light for open terrain fights and to spend money wisely on upgrading what it has with V-hull shaping to deflect land mine blasts, bands tracks, hybrid-electric drives for stealth etc. and some small prudent purchases of what it lacks optimized in two terrain/mission type areas for decisive 3D and 2D maneuvers.................
