Many people would agree with you - although happily some are being retained for 'heritage' services. Not the same perhaps, but still better than nothing.

Well if this was a human driving (and not an over-zealous computer) then whilst the way the train was stopped looks unusual it does in fact demonstrate commendable defensive driving at a location where recent drizzle meant that the rails could be slippery and to overshoot the correct stopping poi...

thanks for this info... maybe its to do with the single person operation? certainly its a sign of present-day madness, since the station was expressly designed to offer cross-platform interchange on both sides of the train using the centre track.

Thanks Andrew.
The EATM is well worth visiting - and for the larger special events you don't even need to be able to drive a car, as there are frequent bus shuttles to and from Lowestoft railway and bus stations (plus sometimes other local areas as well). Full info on their website.

Yes! I did once measure the platform but cannot find my notes. However, yes, it was very narrow!
Clapham Common is the same whilst Euston (Bank Branch) and Angel were also like this, but they were rebuilt with second platforms. Then the old track beds were filled in to make very wide platforms.

I think that my 1989 Panasonic MS50 was better at filming through glass / train windows, as present day cameras focus on the glass. Also, the MS 50 had a power socket for a plug-in microphone, now if I want to use that microphone I will have to hope to remember to switch the battery on.
