The mission of Born HIV Free is to use public and institutional action to mobilise political leaders, the media and public opinion around the protection of mothers and children from AIDS. In addition to the high profile Carla Bruni-Sarkozy brings the cause she founded, she is frequently involved both in field-based activities and in advocacy to influence opinion leaders.
The campaign was initialy launched in 2010 by the Global Fund, as an awareness-raising campaign initiated and supported by Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and conceived by Julien Civange. Born HIV Free met with huge success across 11 European countries. It is the Internet's highest-profile campaign ever.
While the first phase of Born HIV Free has raised awareness of the cause beyond the specialist realm, vast resources will continue to be required if this scourge is to be totally eliminated.
Together with all our partners, we are therefore extending Born HIV Free into an awareness raising campaign to be rolled out across the United States, India and Africa.
