Today I am going to explore the new ARTstor on a campus computer. I have the navigation bar at the top Find, Organize, Share, Display options, and Tools.
The below I have the search function that allows me to run a keyword search or go to advance search where I can add more criteria like search by geography or date.
With the browse function I can browse the images by Geography, Classifications, or collection.
Folders and image groups allow me to search for a folder or image group at my institution.
From this page I can also check out ARTstor news or email questions to ARTstor Staff.
Up on the top right I see an option to login or create an account in ARTstor. Next to that in the upper right there is a Link to ARTstor Help.
So lets get started with a simple keyword search (angel). My search Results are displayed as thumbnails that can be sorted by date, creator or title. From here I can also narrow my search results by using the advanced search option, open an image group, or display images as larger thumbnails. Clicking on the icon will bring me back to the previous display. The arrow keys allow me to advance to the next page. If I would like to see one of the thumbnails in a larger window I would double click on it. In this larger window I can Zoom in on a particular detail, Pan around the image, and print or download. About 95% of the images in ARTstor download at the size of a full screen. You can find more information on downloading in ARTstor help.
I can also open a data window by clicking on the text below the image. This displays the information given to ARTstor by the contributors and shows the file properties.
Going back to the home page, another way to explorer ARTstor is to Browse.
I can sort the images by geography, classification, or collection. These lists can then expanded by clicking on the plus icons to reveal more subdivisions.
Once again back to the home page, here you can open folders and images groups that have been organized at your institution. Instructors may share folders with their students and colleagues here. You can scroll down this list to a folder and open it to view the image groups within them. In ARTstor help there is more information about searching and creating folders.
