Arts Advocacy Day 2009 was held in Washington, DC, on March 31 by Americans for the Arts, in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus and 83 national co-sponsors. The annual event empowers a broad cross section of America's cultural and civic organization and hundreds of grassroots advocates to underscore the importance of developing strong public policies and appropriating increased funding for the arts. This year nearly 500 arts advocates from across the nation met with their representatives on Capitol Hill, calling on them to support arts-friendly legislation and policies.
Special guests and speakers from the 2007 Congressional Arts Breakfast held in Washington, DC. Arts Advocacy Day is the only national event designed to bring together a broad cross section of America's national cultural organizations in order to underscore the importance of developing strong public policies and appropriating increased public funding for the arts, humanities, and arts education, as well as other programs within the federal government that have an impact on the visual and performing arts.
