Furnace Creek 508™, "The toughest 48 hours in sport," has been an AdventureCORPS event held annually in October in Death Valley and the Mojave Desert since 1990, but it dates back to 1983 under the directorship of John Marino, founder of the Great American Bicycle Race and the Race Across America (RAAM).
