Tee Pee Records' beginnings were anything but humble. As early as 1997, the label was issuing releases that would soon become infamous. Between '97 and 2001, Tee Pee released 7 inch singles by the likes of the Wino fronted Spirit Caravan the debut releases by The Atomic Bitchwax, Nebula, Hermano (featuring John Garcia of Kyuss) and the High on Fire. In 2003 Tee Pee released Sleep's legendary album "Dopesmoker". In it's early days Tee Pee was at the forefront of the burgeoning stoner rock movement, a name that had even yet to be coined.
The label garnered mainstream recognition in 2004 upon signing The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The release of BJM's retrospective "Tepid Peppermint Wonderland" coincided with the release of the feature-length documentary "Dig!" which catapulted the band to worldwide notoriety. In 2006 the label made another splash with the signing of Witch (featuring J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr on drums).
Since 2007 Tee Pee has truly hit its stride, releasing critically acclaimed albums by Spindrift, Earthless, The Warlocks, Ancestors, Night Horse, Graveyard, Annihilation Time, Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound and Black Math Horseman. The label has come to epitomize the protest against soulless and mechanized music, specializing in new bands that revitalize the sounds old: psych rock, stoner rock, country, punk, hard rock, doom metal, and even foraying into spaghetti western soundtracks with the recent release from LA's Spindrift. In a post on his blog entitled, "Rock Music Where Have You Been?" Gang of Four's Dave Allen hailed Tee Pee Records as one of the only record labels still churning out quality rock music.
