New Director-General for the IAEA NTDTV - 33 views - 7 hours ago
Yukiya Amano, currently Japan's ambassador to the IAEA, is the newly elected Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

[Yukiya Amano, Newly Elected IAEA Director-General]:
"This afternoon I have received support from 23 countries, which is the necessary number of votes to be selected as the next Director-General of the IAEA. I am very pleased for this support.

Challenges that Amano will face include Iran's nuclear program, blocked investigations into alleged military nuclear activities in Iran and Syria, and North Korean nuclear tests.

[Yukiya Amano, Newly Elected IAEA Director-General]:
"If I have the privilege of being elected as the new Director-General of the IAEA, I will do my utmost to enhance the welfare of human beings and ensure sustainable development through the peaceful use of nuclear energy."

Amano believes that the top priority of the agency is cooperation and solidarity.

[Yukiya Amano, Newly Elected IAEA Director-General]:
"To ensure the solidarity and cooperation among all the countries, that is absolutely necessary now."

Amano will replace Mohamed El Baradei as the head of the agency after he steps down from the role in November 2009.

Kashmir's "Half-Widows" NTDTV - 69 views - 7 hours ago
For the past twelve years, Naseema Mehja-ud-din has been waiting for news of her missing husband.

Naseema says he was picked up by security forces one night in 1997 in a round-up of suspected militants fighting New Delhi's rule in Kashmir.

A mother of two, she is one of Kashmir's hundreds of "half-widows" — women whose husbands disappeared after arrest by Indian security forces.

[Naseema Mehja-ud-din, "Half-Widow"]:
"I am waiting for my husband to return and I will keep waiting for him. I will not re-marry. The only thing that keeps me going in life is the hope that he will come back one day."

Since a separatist revolt broke out in 1989, up to 10,000 people have gone missing after being arrested, according to the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons, an independent group in Kashmir.

The wives now live in limbo, unable either to close an old chapter or to start a new one by re-marrying, leaving them labeled "half-widows".

Officials say most of the missing have crossed into Pakistani Kashmir for arms training.

Indian troops, engaged in fighting over 19 years of insurgency, have been accused of murdering innocent civilians in staged gun battles and passing them off as separatist militants to earn rewards and promotions. But charges have not always been substantiated.

A heavily militarized Line of Control divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan, with both claiming the scenic region after having fought two wars over it.

Most "half-widows" are from lower-income Muslim families and according to a court ruling cannot remarry for at least seven years after their husbands go missing.

[Parveena Ahanger, Founder, APDP]:
"The court has taken out an order that for seven years half-widows cannot re-marry. They know they can re-marry after seven years, but they don't agree to marry after seven years. Some of them have three, four children. They know that no one will look after their children, so they don't re-marry."

Without proof of death, "half-widows" are not eligible for government compensation, nor can they claim the property of their husbands.

Indian authorities, who put the missing at between 1,000 and 3,000, say they are now planning to provide relief to Kashmir's widows and "half-widows".

Sole Yemenia Plane Crash Survivor Back in France NTDTV - 62 views - 7 hours ago
Appearing frail and traumatized, teenage air crash survivor Bakari Bahia is flown to France to be reunited with her father.

The 14-year-old's remarkable tale of survival has captivated the world's media.

The only survivor from a Yemenia Airways jet which crashed near Comoros off the African coast, Bakari clung on to floating debris for more than 12 hours before search teams spotted her struggling in rough seas.

152 others on board the flight are missing — including the teenager's mother.

A French television crew accompanied the injured girl on the chartered flight to Paris.

Questioned about how she felt drew single-syllable answers.

Asked to describe her feelings about being reunited with her father, she says, "I don't know, I don't feel anything."

After a little prompting, she confesses to feeling a bit emotional.

With cuts to her face and a broken collarbone, doctors say she's traumatized but doing well.

American and French military aircraft are continuing to scour the crash site — but hopes of finding another miracle in the water are all but faded.

The Airbus A310 was flying the final leg of a trip from Paris and Marseille to Comoros via Yemen, when it plunged into the Indian Ocean while preparing to land during bad weather on Tuesday.

Yemen's national carrier has been plagued by recurring safety concerns.

It's since emerged that the doomed plane was banned from French airspace two years ago after an inspection revealed numerous faults.

The European Union says all Yemenia aircraft could be banned from its airspace, unless safety issues are immediately addressed.

Swine Flu Update from India NTDTV - 800 views - 3 weeks ago
This is the Government Chest Hospital where a team of analysts from the Indian federal government review how local authorities are dealing with swine flu.

Out of the nine cases of swine flu reported in India, seven are from the state of Andhra Pradesh. The other two are from Tamil Nadu state.

A four-and-a-half year old girl has been tested positive for the influenza in Hyderabad.

It's believed that the virus might have been transmitted to the girl through her brother, who was tested positive earlier in the week.

A medical specialist at the Hospital says talks regarding how samples are sent were discussed with the federal team.

[Dr. Sudhakar, Medical Specialist]:
"They have scrutinized all the arrangements made here. They are very mush satisfied and we had dialogue with them regarding the sample sending. How to send the samples early and also communications things."

Although H1N1 swine flu appears mild, it affects mostly older children and young adults. Experts worry it could change into a more dangerous form

On the Beginnings of the Chinese Communist Party

Why did the Communist Party emerge, grow and eventually seize power in contemporary China? Did the Chinese people choose the Communist Party? Or, did the Communist Party gang up and force Chinese people to accept it? The CCP has set itself above all, conquering all in its path, thereby bringing endless catastrophe to China.

New Evidence Helps Organ Harvesting Case NTDTV - 11,651 views - 10 months ago
ANCHOR:
New evidence has come to light that further proves the case that the Chinese Communist Party has been harvesting organs from illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners. A new documentary has unwittingly bolstered the case championed by human rights lawyers David Kilgour [KILL-gore] and David Matas [MAY-tuss]. Here's that story:

NARRATION:
Organs are being harvested from live Falun Gong detainees in Mainland China--this is what David Kilgour—a former Canadian Member of Parliament—and David Matas—a Canadian human rights lawyer—have been saying since 2006. They've been traveling the world with their investigative report in hand, trying to get governments to recognize these atrocities and help put a stop to them. Well, that job just became a little easier--thanks, ironically, to the Chinese Communist Party.

As a key part of their investigation into the organ harvesting allegations, Kilgour and Matas paid a research team to call Chinese hospitals pretending to be searching for an organ. One of these callers talked to a Dr. Lu Guoping. Dr. Lu said that he had traveled to prisons to select Falun Gong detainees who would be killed for their organs, and that his hospital used these organs.

But recently, Dr. Lu was interviewed as part of a documentary film by Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV. In the documentary, Dr. Lu acknowledges that it was he who spoke with this investigator over the phone—but he says his words were changed in the transcript, and that he never admitted to any of the above.

This Phoenix TV documentary has been endorsed by China's Communist Party and is being distributed through its overseas consulates.

But what the documentary fails to mention is that there's an audio recording of that original phone call. So now that Dr. Lu has admitted he was the one who spoke with the investigator, the Communist Party will have a hard time claiming the investigation was made up. And that's a big boost to the credibility of the Kilgour-Matas team.

On their website, Kilgour and Matas are making available the Phoenix TV documentary video alongside the original audio recording of the undercover phone interview. There's also a transcript of the interview in Chinese and English . You can find it all at www.Organ Harvest Investigation.net or click on the link beneath this video on our website, ntdtv.com.

Will You Carry The Torch ? NTDTV - 18,720 views - 1 year ago
"Every great movement began with a few people shining the light of understanding into the darkness of oppression."
NJ mayor José "Joey" Torres at a reception hosted by the Human Rights Torch Relay (HRTR)

The Human Rights Torch Relay is an international campaign that seeks to bring an end to all human rights abuses against the people of China, while highlighting the persecution of Falun Gong - the most severely persecuted group in China today. During the run up to the 2008 Olympics, the HRTR will host events in 37 countries across six continents to present its message: The Olympics and crimes against humanity cannot coexist in China.

The Tibetan, Burmese, and Vietnamese communities, the Darfur Support Network (Sudan), Chinese democracy groups, student groups, former Olympians, and representatives from sports and politics are among the relay participants.

Background

Since China was chosen as the 2008 Olympic site, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Reporters Without Borders have all reported a marked increase in violent repression aimed at silencing groups and individuals the CCP has labeled as enemies.

In June 2005, China's deputy public security minister Liu Jing was given the job of eradicating Falun Gong before the 2008 Olympics.

In April 2006, a secret and unprecedented espionage directive revealed CCP plans to investigate and bar thousands from the 2008 games, including International Olympic Committee members, staff and guests; sponsors; referees, athletes and delegates; media; the Dalai Lama, the handicapped, land rights activists, and anyone who falls within 43 categories of "unwanteds."

Deeply concerned about the Chinese regime's worsening human rights record and, in particular, its horrific treatment of Falun Gong adherents, on June 8th 2007, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) sent a letter to the communist leadership asking them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong and to allow CIPFG entry into China to investigate the persecution and the issue of mass, state-sanctioned organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. Not unexpectedly, there was no reply. CIPFG believes that the CCP has confirmed its unwillingness to be transparent and to respect human life; therefore, CIPFG initiated the Relay, which kicked off on August 9, 2007 in Athens, Greece. The event is traveling in Europe, Australia, Africa and South America before coming to the U.S. in March, 2008.
