The Mojave National Preserve is spread over 1.6 million acres.
Drive through the vast national reserve that looks vast, empty and barren landscape, but look closely and it is full of surprises with rocks dating back to 2.5 billion years, sand dunes, granite mountains, dry river beds, desert animals, joshua trees & wild flowers.
Located on the border of Nevada & California, the Mojave can be searingly hot or bone chillingly cold depending on the time of the month.
Driving through the unpaved roads of the New York Mountains that run like a spine through the Mojave can be an intensely lonely & breath taking.
If you plan on driving to Las Vegas from California, it is definitely worth taking a detour and driving through Mojave before crossing the border to arrive at Sin City.
