This is the best off the shelf DIY STIRLING ENGINE start we have come up with so far. This Stirling Engine has shown signs of successful operation. It also works excellent as a Steam Engine. I have another compressor that I am converting into a DC motor:-)

These compressors cost about $100 on EBAY. Make sure you buy the compressor pump at a 90 degree angle.

I saw a picture years ago of a water delaination unit used (I think) on sailing ships. It looked like three presure cookers joined together by copper pipe. As the sea water boiled in the first cooker, steam replaced the air in the other two. When only steam was comeing out, the heat source was removed and the last cooker was sealed. As the temp went down, so did the vapor presure of the steam. the other two cookers filled with distiled water.
