As befits a game in which skillfully utilizing a deck of cards is key to victory, the combat screen in Armageddon Empires both looks and plays a lot like a Magic The Gathering duel, expect with dice (many of which can be loaded).

You begin by positioning combat units in the first or second row (for frontline fighters and support/long-range units respectively), choose targets and then determine whether you hit or not by rolling dice. If you're not happy with the outcome, you also have the option of using Tactics cards to influence the final result or take advantage of a commanding Hero unit's "Fate" points to enable rethrows of the dice.

Needless to say, combat in Armageddon Empires has just as much potential for depth and complexity as the rest of the game...
