Today, I want to show you a game that I got as a present when I was a kid. It's Lollypop, a slow-paced platform game developed by Brain Bug and Rainbow Arts and published by Softgold Computerspiele GmbH. It was released for PC MS-DOS in 1994 and for Commodore Amiga in 1995.
The story is about a small doll that became alive for some reason. But she needs a lot of candy in order to survive. Your goal is to help her through several nice levels to make it to the land of Cockaigne.
Even though Lollypop got good press reviews, it was widely unknown and became a commercial flop.

This is another video of Tyrian, an arcade-style vertical scrolling game developed by Eclipse Productions and published by Epic MegaGames in 1995. This game originally came with four episodes. In 1999, Tyrian was re-released as Tyrian 2000, which includes a fifth episode and additional ships.
This game has been released as freeware in 2004. In 2007, the original Pascal source code was licensed to a small group of people, who rewrite it in C as an open source project called OpenTyrian.

Chex Quest 2 is a promotional first-person shooter developed by Digital Café in 1997. It was exclusively available on the official Chex Quest website. Its prequel, Chex Quest, was included in Chex cereal boxes as a prize. This time, you, the Chex Warrior, returned to your home planet and realized that the Flemoids reached your home. Now you have to fight them again.
Just as its prequel, Chex Quest 2 uses a modified DOOM engine. It was followed by Chex Quest 3, which was done by former Digital Café employees as a service to fans in 2008.

Abuse is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Crack dot Com and published by Electronic Arts in 1996. Even though the shareware version was released for MS-DOS, Linux and the Apple Macintosh, the retail version was available for MS-DOS only. However, since Crack dot Com released the source code and the shareware data as public domain in around 1998, it is possible to compile Linux binaries from the sources.
One interesting thing is that the story is set in the near future, the year 2009. Even though we already have 2009, it was still far away when the game was done.
