Popular stereotype (promoted by Democrats). The republicans are the "Party Of The Rich" while the democrats represent the 'poor and downtrodden'.
Elections are won by having as many people as possible voting for your party. So, if they really are the 'Party of the Rich', the Republicans need to do things that enable as many people as possible to become and stay rich.
