West of England Combined Authority

The West of England Combined Authority was formed in 2017, to champion the region and drive clean and inclusive economic growth.

Our ambitious councils - Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire - came together to fight for devolution because they could see the value in this new way of doing things, looking beyond council boundaries to benefit all of us who live and work in the region.

Because of devolution, significant powers and funding have been transferred our region through WECA and the West of England Mayor.

These new powers mean we can take positive action here in the region to address our challenges. We are making decisions about those important things that affect our residents every day – transport, homes, jobs and skills, decisions previously made by central Government.

To ensure success, we must work at a regional level – none of us live our lives according to council boundaries. 

By working together, we can achieve so much more.
