Greetings, Just a brief note to let you know that my interview with Shirley Jones of The Jones Girls is up on SoulMusic.com.
As teenageers, Shirley and her sisters Brenda and Valorie started making a name for themselves as backing vocalist for everyone from Cher to Aretha Franklin. But it was Diana Ross who gave them the spotlight, literally, as featured performers on her world tour that led to their association with Philadelphia International Records.
Their enduring hits include "You're Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else", "I Just Love The Man", "Who Can I Run To" and "Nights Over Egypt".
I had a great conversation with Shirley about her mother (a groundbreaking gospel artist), their start as background vocalists, the years they toured with Diana Ross and her own solo success with the number one hit "Do You Get Enough Love".
Shirley was soft spoken, yet forthcoming as we "walked" down memory lane and back to the present day with the release of her new alum FEELS LIKE HEAVEN.
I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did. Shirley was a pleasure to speak with.
