August 5, 2012 -- SCSO searched throughout the day yesterday to attempt to locate a missing and endangered 77-year-old female. As night fell, Alert (one of two SCSO helicopters) was deployed to assist deputies and volunteers searching on the ground. Here's the footage of the chopper finding the missing senior in a wooded area, and then directing deputies on the ground to her location. Alert used FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) in the search. This thermal imaging technology makes objects that emit heat visible in the dark and able to be seen by the chopper's flight crew. This lady was found in good condition and we were very happy to have found her safely. Nice job to all involved!
