Around 200 demonstrators gathered in Berlin on Saturday to protest against COVID-19 measures, arguing with police officers that their constitutional rights had been infringed.

According to Berlin's police spokesperson, about 180 officers were in place to uphold containment regulations as health authorities had not given permission for the gathering to take place.

Germany's confirmed COVID-19 cases had increased by 2,055 to a new total of 152,438, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Saturday, which is a second day of deceleration after three days of acceleration in new infections.

Germany has the fifth-highest COVID-19 caseload behind the United States, Spain, Italy and France, but has kept fatalities down after early and extensive testing.
