Patricia Pokorny has a visual disability and knows from personal experience how difficult it is for persons with disabilities to negotiate physical barriers and noisy distractions. Because of this awareness, she successfully created her own position as Special Needs Co-ordinator at Casino Niagara, long before the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act was considered. Today, Pokorny is the senior manager of Accessibility at Ontario Lottery Gaming, a Crown corporation with five casinos, 33 gambling sites, two corporate offices and about 10,000 employees. She educates OLG staff about the needs of Ontarians with disabilities, and reports directly to the top tiers of the Ontario government.
