Epson R3000 CIS / Refillable Cartridges Initial Set up

Caution: This is a vacuum fill method. No pressure should be applied when filling the cartridges. If pressure is applied, ink could spray out of the cartridge when the syringe is removed. You don't want ink all over your face. Take it slow, you will find it easy to convert to 3rd party ink.

1. Fill the cartridge with ink until 95% fill. There will be air in the cartridge at this point. The air must be removed by the vacuum fill method.
2. Vacuum fill the cartridge - Fill the syringe with ink to 50%, insert the syringe without a needle to the cartridge. There should be no air in the syringe at this point. If you forgot to purge the air from the syringe, take the syringe out, pull the plunger so the ink in the tip will be drawn into the syringe, purge the air from the syringe until there is only ink there. Press the syringe to a good fit to seal leak before vacuum is applied. If the syringe is pressed too hard against the cartridge, the cartridge or the syringe tip will crack. The cartridge may not provide a good seal to let the cartridge work correctly.
3. With a 50% filled syringe and no air in the syinge, pull a vacuum to remove air from the cartridge. Do this slowly and hold the syringe at the top mark for a few second before releasing the plunger. This will allow the air bubbles to rise to the top and not return to the cartridge. Caution: Pulling the plunger too hard will make the plunger pop out from the syringe. If you don't want ink all over your face, do this slowly and gently.
4. After the ink in the syringe is emptied into the cartridge, take the syringe out and fill it to 50% again. Empty the air from the syringe carefully to avoid ink spraying out.
5. Reinsert the syringe to repeat step 3.
6. Repeat 3 - 4 until there is no air in the bottom of the cartridge.
