How fast a webpage loads affects user experience and, therefore, is a ranking factor in search results. Log into webmaster tools for Google or Bing to see site performance. In Google, that's under Labs then Site Performance. If you don't have webmaster tools set up, 1) go do that 2) use Analytics (go to Content then Site Speed) in the meantime. Aim for page load speed of 2 seconds or less. Talk to you web developer or programmer about site performance. If they're any good, they'll give you advice on optimizing your images, and they'll find ways to consolidate the number of external CSS and JavaScript files, remove any extraneous HTML code, and investigate other issues like the server, cache, etc.
