Hubble was first launched on the 24th of April 1990, today, Hubble has been operation for 20 years.

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has been our eyes on the universe for the last two decades. It has showed us what we thought we knew was impossible, it has showed us natural beauty artists haven't imagined, it has captivated the minds and hearts of millions and is the most recognised observatory ever built.

In celebration Hubble pointed its starry-eyes on the Carina Nebula and snapped its anniversary image. This photo is very much reminiscent of the Pillars of Creation with towers of dust and gas stretching light years.

For people not familiar with Hubble's history, there's a short montage of what Hubble has discovered and imaged (artists' impressions included).

Hubble truly is one-of-a-kind. If there was ever a debate on space exploration Hubble would certainly provide a reason to reach for the stars.
