Long Island City's Gantry Plaza State Park, built around two 1920s-era gantries -- or float bridges -- used by the Long Island Railroad to load cargo -- offers one of New York City's great, less-than-mainstream views of the city. The park opened in 1998 and is still expanding. And recovering. In 2005, Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman came to shoot the ending of the bad film 'The Interpreter.'
