First some history about this video.
Back in the late 80's, not sure maybe 88, I took part in a Gravity Bike Race. The race took place on a 2.2 mile, 9% grade, stretch of Cole Grade Road located in some hills near San Diego, CA. ESPN featured the "SE Racing - Cole Grade Road - GPVA Nationals" race on a show called "Vision Street Wear - Action Cycle Sports Series". Produced by Scot Breithaupt, L.M. Productions and was the first time this gravity sport ever aired on TV. Great race! Even better crashes! I crashed in the same place during a practice run while drafting the rider in front of me. He hit a box-dot and instantly went down taking me out in the exact same way Hanebrink went down.

Fast-Forward to present day...
For the past 10 or more years I have periodically searched the web for footage or anything related to that race with zero results. Just recently I discovered a few sites dedicated to Gravity Powered Vehicles (GPV to us OG's from the 80's) now better known as Gravity Bikes. After reading a couple interviews & several Posts, a few riders I raced with BITD make reference to the ESPN race and how it played a key role introducing the sport to the world. I recall many people rolling tape & snappin' pix that day, so I figured they must be out there somewhere, Right? Yet no one can provide any footage or even photos, except for a couple promo pix, of that historic event. Then it hit me. I just might have in my possession one of the only surviving VHS copy from 20 something years ago. I decided I must get this video up for all to enjoy. So I searched through box after box in storage for the tape before I finally found it. There it was mixed in with some old cheesy 80's Porn tapes, the "Holy Grail" to some of us "Need For Speed" junkies. I wondered if it was even still on the tape after all these years. When I got home and hooked up a VCR I was shocked to see it was still in relatively good condition. I must have sat for a couple hours watching it over and over again. Good thing I still got my G-Bike! Anyway...

After many hours of video capturing to my PC from VHS, editing, coding, encoding, re-coding, trans-coding, etc. I was able to save all but about 30 seconds or so. I think Moms started taping over it with her soaps before noticing it was not a blank tape. Oh
well, what can you do. The good news is... That crazy crash? Its all there, Slow-Mo instant replay & all. Finally! 20 something years later... Here it is in full with, NO commentary, NO commercials, & NO Trials Bikes. Nothing but gravity!
