The new Inspiron (this is Nov 2011) are apparently not made to be upgraded, since there is no separate lid for reaching the HDD. You have to take the laptop apart entirely. It can be done, but if you are a klutz like me, there will be parts left over after reassembly, your speakers won't work and the laptop won't go into standby when you close the lid. I had to do it again to fix that and now everything works again AND is faster, thanks to a 7200 RPM 750GB WD Black Hard Disk. The speed gain is very noticable.
