Tom Perlmutter, Former Chairman of the National Film Board of Canada, is widely credited with transforming a somnolent traditional media organization into a global media powerhouse for the digital age. To Perlmutter, despite the disruption and havoc that the digital renaissance has wrought on old world notions of storytelling, the digital landscape is teeming with unimaginable possibilities.
This week's hangout will explore the future of interactive documentary, through the eyes of Perlmutter and a cast of fellow revolutionaries who have each had a hand in non-linear story-making. Joined by Sandra Gaudenzi, a leading "i-docs" academic and consultant; interactive practitioner and journalist, Dylan Young; Founder, SALTY Features and independent producer, Yael Melamede; and Soraya Murray of USCS's Film and Digital Media Department, our panel of experts will discuss how the web is changing the form of documentary filmmaking.
The topic has been inspired by this short speaker film that we created with Perlmutter in the lead up to the 2013 FoST summit: "The Evolution of Cinema and the Birth of a New Art Form":
