Here, we have a command center of sorts, with a sewage system, barracks with awfully tall beds (I assume they were meant to be bunk beds,) and warehouses big and small. The text file warns you to beware this level, because it's "extremely tough if you warp into it." In reality, it's easier than E1M3! The one section that comes close to being tough is the blue key room, and that's because you can wind up taking a lot of hitscan damage with little health items around. Other than that, you have a lot of space to move, and more than enough resources available. It certainly doesn't help that you can pluck the plasma rifle right through its cage, which I know for sure was never intended.

This level is also where you find the secret exit, meaning that if you finish E1M9, you repeat this level over again (since you were supposed to get to E1M9 from E1M3.) This makes "Knee-Deep ][ - Bloodbath" another early-90s WAD that places the secret exit in the wrong level, and unlike in DARKHELL.WAD, it is neither explained nor justified. If you want to record a UV max movie, don't expect to be able to include this level and E1M9 in the same run unless you go for UV speed on E1M4 (like Maikl did for DARKHELL.WAD.)

There are other errors to be found. Near the start, Aug makes the Raczian error of placing secret flags in every monster closet in a room, meaning you have to walk into each one of them to get half of the secrets. There are also two pairs of items that are unreachable because they're placed on top of crates you can't climb. Moving away from outright bugs, secrets are required to get the first two keys, and the sewer from which you access one of them is almost completely dark. Opening the secret exit requires you to first open a totally secret door (to get the yellow key,) and then shoot the side of a random supercomputer — although at least unlike in "REoL TOUGH: The Pit" (FIFFY4.WAD,) it's in a room where you actually /are/ likely to hit it, albeit accidentally.

Speedrunning this was a bit annoying, because just like E1M3, one of the keys is reached through a mandatory PMP. The sewer section just before it is annoying simply because it forced me to ramp the gamma correction to maximum just to be able to see anything. Once I broke 5:30 for UV max, I shaved off a few more seconds and left it at that, since my performance was fine enough.
