UPDATE: A Yellow Vests protester was gravely injured his hand, during clashes with the police in front of the National Assembly building. According to the RUPTLY crew in Paris, the injury was caused by a detonating sting grenade.
Ruptly is live from Paris on Saturday, February 9, as thousands of Yellow Vest protesters are expected to take to the streets of the French capital for the 13th Saturday in a row.
Despite the French government suspending tax hikes and announcing increases to the minimum wage, protests have continued. Over 2,000 people have been arrested since the demonstrations began and at least 10 have died, the vast majority of the deaths being due to collisions between protesters and vehicles.
According to the French newspaper JDD French President Emmanuel Macron is considering holding a referendum this spring. This would be the first referendum in 14 years in which French citizens will be asked -among other things- to vote on parliamentary seats, the electoral mandate and the counting of blank protest votes during major elections.
