Course Description:
Winning a lawsuit is only half the battle- trying to collect the money from the defendant-debtor can be even more challenging. Join collection attorney Jeffrey Ward in this important nuts and bolts discussion that covers collection practice in New Jersey. Mr. Ward begins by providing advice on conducting initial intake with clients, filing complaints & motions, and obtaining default judgments. He then goes on to explain the most effective ways of finding a debtor's assets and the procedures for enforcing judgments once such assets are found. Mr. Ward also covers the best enforcement mechanisms available to a creditor. Throughout his presentation, Mr. Ward explains the nuanced differences in the Special Civil and Law Division parts of the New Jersey Superior Court system (Court Officers v. Sheriff, filing procedures, court costs, etc.). This is an excellent introductory course for New Jersey attorneys seeking to collect a debt on behalf of a client.
