Venous insufficiency or valvular incompetence happens when the valves in the veins (usually in the legs) don't work properly. Symptoms of venous insufficiency are typically swelling and skin discoloration. Ultrasound is used to evaluate the function of the valves in your legs. You will be asked to do Valsalva maneuvers (bearing down) during the exam. Preparation for Exam: None.
