The Marine Mammal Care Center at Fort MacArthur began operation in 1992. The Care Center is the only federally authorized hospital for sick, injured and orphaned marine mammals in Los Angeles County, California. This facility has the capability to care for many sick and injured marine mammals in varying stages of medical need. The Care Center has only three permanent employees including one full time veterinarian and over 90 dedicated volunteers from the local community.

Terranea (ter-a-NAY-a) is a 582-room resort including a 360-room hotel with 32 suites, plus 20 bungalows, 50 oceanfront casitas and 32 ocean view villas, a 50,000-square-foot oceanfront spa complex, three pools, eight restaurants, bars and lounges and a nine-hole, par 3 golf course. The 102-acre bluff-top property has been transformed from the former Marineland of the Pacific, which closed more than 20 years ago, into a $480 million luxury destination resort.
