PFLAG NYC--Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of New York City--is the founding chapter of PFLAG, the nations foremost family-based organization committed to the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons.

PFLAG NYC runs programs and services to promote the equality and well-being of LGBT people and their families, including support groups in multiple locations around New York City and a helpline.

PFLAG NYC brings educational speaking programs to schools, businesses, and other community institutions. Through the Safe Schools Program, PFLAG NYC works to stop homophobia in the classroom, create welcoming learning environments for all students, and help educators and parents address the up to 10% of students who may be LGBT.

PFLAG NYC also runs the award-winning, nationwide public awareness and education campaign, Stay Close (www.stayclose.org), which features straight celebrities along with their LGBT family members. PFLAG NYC is also a strong advocate for LGBT equality in the public arena and has helped achieve important legislation, such as New York Citys Dignity in All Schools Act (DASA).
